If your trip through Kuala Lumpur International Airport means clearing immigration at Terminal 1 — rather than staying airside for a connection — Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA is one of the easiest places to book for an overnight stop.
But there is one very important thing to know before booking:
Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA and Sama-Sama Express are not the same hotel.
Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA is a landside hotel. You need to enter Malaysia, collect your luggage if necessary, clear immigration and customs, and then head to the hotel.
Sama-Sama Express is an airside transit hotel for passengers who are staying inside the airport during an international connection.
I stayed at Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA in January 2024 after arriving from Singapore. My flight landed around 6:30 PM, but immigration took nearly three hours, yeek! By the time I reached the landside area, I was so exhausted. That was exactly when I was glad I had booked a proper hotel near the terminal instead of trying to travel into Kuala Lumpur late at night.
Quick answer: is Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA worth it?
Yes, I think so.
If you have cleared immigration at KLIA Terminal 1 and need a comfortable place to sleep before or after a flight. It’s a strong fit for late arrivals, early Terminal 1 departures, or anyone recovering from a long immigration queue who wants a real room rather than a short-stay transit space. It’s a weaker fit if you’re staying airside, flying out of Terminal 2, only need a few hours during a connection, or are hunting for the cheapest option near the airport. (More on exactly who should book this below.)
Regarding my vacation in Malaysia in January 2024, I have to say I wasn’t eager to visit Malaysia again anytime soon. However, I really liked the hotel.
Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA vs Sama-Sama Express: do not book the wrong one
This is the part I wish more people knew before searching for a hotel at KLIA.
| Hotel | Location | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA | Landside, near KLIA Terminal 1 | Travelers who have entered Malaysia |
| Sama-Sama Express KLIA Terminal 1 | Airside, Satellite A | International transit passengers who stay inside the airport |
| Sama-Sama Express KLIA Terminal 2 | Airside, Terminal 2 | Transit passengers using Terminal 2 |
I saw Sama-Sama Express inside the airport when I arrived. However, because I had already passed immigration and entered Malaysia, it was no longer an option for me. Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA was the correct hotel for my situation.
If you are unsure, ask yourself this before booking: Will I clear Malaysian immigration and enter the country?
- If yes, book Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA.
- If no, look at Sama-Sama Express instead.
A word of caution: there are several Sama-Sama brand hotels at KLIA and KLIA2. My flight was with Singapore Airlines (SQ), which uses Terminal 1 and it is often called KLIA. Terminal 2, for low-cost carriers (LCC), is often called KLIA2. While there are buses between the terminals, they are not close to each other.
When booking this hotel, make sure your flight arrives or departs from KLIA (T1).
In KLIA (T1), the main terminal for immigration, and you will arrive at or leave from the satellite terminal. I saw a “Sama-Sama Express Hotel” at the KLIA satellite terminal, which means it is located airside, you are not able to stay there when you pass the immigration to enter Malaysia.
On the other hand this“Sama-Sama Hotel Kuala Lumpur International Airport” is landside, you NEED to go enter Malaysia. This is an important distinction.
My stay after a long immigration queue
I arrived at KLIA from Singapore in the evening. At the time, I was traveling on a Japanese passport, and immigration took much longer than expected. I spent around three hours in line and did not leave the terminal until about 10 PM.
I can’t say whether that’s typical now — queues depend heavily on arrival time, staffing, and flight schedules on the day. Still, after such a long wait, I was very happy that my hotel was close to the airport. The staffs were friendly and professional, check-in was smooth, and I could finally relax.
For me, the value of this hotel was not simply “being near the airport.” It was being able to go from immigration, to a proper room, to a shower and bed without another long transfer.
How to get to Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA from Terminal 1
Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA is connected to KLIA Terminal 1 by a covered skybridge. After immigration and customs, follow the signs toward the KLIA Ekspres area and the hotel direction signs.
You can walk to the hotel, but if you are tired or carrying luggage, use the complimentary buggy service. The buggy was one of the memorable parts of my stay — much more comfortable than dragging luggage after a long flight, with go-cart like driving, it was so fun. The hotel is close enough that you can see the terminal area from the property.
At KLIA (T1), head toward the KLIA Ekspres station (I will tell you about it in another article). You may notice the cart services.
Room
My room: much bigger than I expected for an airport hotel
I stayed in a double room, and it felt very spacious for one person. After a tiring arrival, I appreciated having enough space to open my suitcase properly and settle down.
The bed was softer than I personally prefer, but I still slept well. What mattered most was having a quiet, comfortable room after spending hours at the airport. Room size, comfort, and soundproofing are also among the most commonly praised points in current guest reviews — more on that below.
Power outlets: useful if you do not have a Malaysian plug
One detail I liked was the desk area. It had multi-style outlets, which was useful for charging devices without immediately needing a Malaysian plug adapter. Malaysia generally uses British-style Type G (aka BF) plugs, with 240V so this was convenient for travelers arriving without the right adapter.
I was carrying an Apple 20W charger with a British plug, but the multi-style outlets gave me more flexibility.
Bathroom
The bathroom had a separate bathtub and shower. I especially appreciated that after a long airport wait — the hot water was available quickly, and the bathroom felt like a proper place to reset after traveling. There were enough amenities for my overnight stay. If specific toiletries matter to you, check the booking details before arrival, since amenities can vary by room category.
The hot water was available quickly.
There were enough amenities, but keep in mind that this may change due to resource-saving efforts.
I don’t remember what I had for breakfast—maybe I bought something in the satellite terminal before waiting in the passport control line.
What recent guests seem to like
I stayed in January 2024, so before updating this article I also checked how the hotel is rated more broadly. On Tripadvisor, Sama-Sama Hotel currently holds a 4-out-of-5 rating from over 3,300 traveler reviews and ranks #1 of 26 hotels in Sepang.
The points that come up repeatedly there, and that matched my own stay, are:
- convenient access to KLIA Terminal 1
- the complimentary buggy service
- spacious and comfortable rooms
- friendly, efficient staff
- a generous breakfast selection
- a quiet place to sleep before an early flight
The main trade-off is price. This isn’t the cheapest hotel near KLIA — recent listings across major booking sites put nightly rates for a standard room somewhere in the $130–180 USD range on average, with both lower and higher rates showing up depending on room type, season, and how far ahead you book. You’re paying for convenience, comfort, and the ability to stay close to Terminal 1 without arranging another transfer.
One small thing worth knowing: Malaysia charges a tourism tax of RM10 per room, per night for non-Malaysian guests. If you book and pay through Agoda rather than choosing “pay at hotel,” this is generally collected as part of your online payment and shown in the taxes and fees at checkout — which matched what I saw on my own booking. It’s still a good idea to keep your booking confirmation handy at check-in, just in case the front desk asks about it.
A few recent reviewers also mention that some rooms can feel a little dated or have occasional minor maintenance issues. I’d still choose it for convenience, but I’d book it with airport-hotel expectations rather than expecting a newly opened city luxury property.
Is it convenient for Terminal 2?
Not really. Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA is best for travelers using Terminal 1. Terminal 2 is separate, and moving between the terminals takes extra time. If your flight uses Terminal 2, check carefully whether a Terminal 2 hotel or an airside transit hotel would make more sense.
Do not book this hotel simply because the name says “Kuala Lumpur International Airport.” Check your terminal first.
Who should book Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA?
Book this hotel if you:
- arrive at KLIA Terminal 1 late at night
- have an early Terminal 1 departure
- need to recover after a long immigration queue
- want a full hotel stay rather than a short transit room
- value convenience more than finding the lowest price
- are entering Malaysia and need a landside hotel
Consider another option if you:
- are staying airside during an international transfer
- will not clear immigration
- depart from Terminal 2 and want the shortest possible transfer
- only need a few hours of sleep
- are looking for a lower-cost airport-area stay
Final thoughts

My January 2024 arrival at KLIA was difficult because of the long immigration queue. But staying at Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA made the end of that day much easier. It was close, comfortable, and easy to reach after I finally entered Malaysia. The room was much larger than I expected for an airport hotel, the bathroom was relaxing, and the buggy service was a welcome shortcut.
The most important thing is booking the correct Sama-Sama property. If you have cleared immigration and need a comfortable landside hotel near KLIA Terminal 1, Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA is a very practical choice.
FAQ

Is the hotel walkable from KLIA Terminal 1? Yes. It is connected by a covered skybridge, and there is also a complimentary buggy service.
Is Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA suitable for Terminal 2? It can be used, but it is much more convenient for Terminal 1 passengers. Check your terminal before booking.
